The American Legion Legacy Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship designed to fulfill a financial gap remaining after all federal and state educational grants or scholarships available to an eligible applicant have been utilized. Those who may apply are children of U.S. military members who died while on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001; and children of post-9/11 veterans having been assigned a combined disability rating of 50 percent or greater by the Department of Veterans Affairs also qualify. Each needs-based scholarship provides up to $20,000 for children of the fallen, and up to $5,000 for children of the disabled for undergraduate or post-graduate college. Recipients may reapply for additional annual awards up to six times. The Balkhi Foundation Higher Education Scholarship seeks to help talented young people make college more attainable through a scholarship. These annual renewable awards are granted to exceptional high school seniors accepted to a US based college or university who demonstrate a financial need. An ideal applicant for a Balkhi Foundation Scholarship is a student who has shown dedication to their academics as well as their personal goals whether that is through community service, creation of a business or invention, or significant dedication to academic pursuits. Students should be self starters who have shown tenacity in the face of challenges and a hunger for success. Previous Balkhi Foundation Scholars have represented a diverse variety of backgrounds and high school experiences including community service, writing and publishing novels, completing university level research or associates degrees in high school, or being identified as leaders within their school and community. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP) offers competitive scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research. The program provides up to $20,000 per academic year in tuition, educational expenses, and reasonable living expenses to scholarship recipients. Her passion and dedication to promoting, protecting and improving the foodservice industry is what drove her day in and day out. Applicants should also possess the qualities of passion and dedication and have a strong desire to improve the foodservice industry through the personal pursuit of professionalism. Applicants may be high school seniors, college students, and high school or post-secondary instructors who teach culinary arts or hospitality management courses. The Letitia B. Carter Scholarship is presented by the Restaurant Association of Maryland Education Foundation in memory of the former CEO of the Restaurant Association of Maryland. This competitive scholarship is awarded to those interested in pursuing hospitality-related coursework. It is available to high school students and college students as well as high school, college or corporate instructors and current hospitality industry professionals. Student applicants must have a minimum cumulative unweighted grade point average of 3.0 and instructors, teachers and industry applicants must have a minimum of 1500 hours documented industry experience. The purpose of the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters Scholarship is to assist a college student with the cost of tuition for one year in his or her pursuit of college study. The student must have the career goal of working in the broadcast industry (radio, television) in Hawaii upon graduation. Applicants must be students interested in a broadcast career who are attending or plan to attend an accredited college or university or a recognized broadcast school in the United States.
